You Are Strong: How Your Smallest Light Can Shine Through the Deepest Darkness

You are strong my friend. There have been many times for me and for many of us, I am sure, of deep darkness on this journey. I have mentioned before how I love fireflies. Now that I am in near the coast in North Carolina, I do not see them. However, fireflies are so magical that once you experience their fairy dance, your life will never be the same.

One of the many nights I couldn’t sleep due to pain, I went out to watch fireflies. I pray to God and was in a deep prayer of anger and frustration.

Suddenly, through the tears, I saw a firefly just hovering in front of me as if it was giving me a message. As I stared at that little guy, I remembered from a sermon that light is always more powerful than darkness and the only way to kill light is to cover it up or snuff it out.

Then I thought about a cave tour we recently did in VA and when they turned out the lights, the tour director said that this was pure darkness, that there was no light and that our eyes would never adjust. Then I looked at this firefly, still there and shining brightly and realized that this small firefly, if in that cave, would overpower that darkness and eventually we could recognize faces and even read.

The point of the story? You are the light that this world needs no matter how dim you think your light is shining. WE NEED YOU! THIS WORLD NEEDS YOU! YOU MATTER! YOU ARE IMPORTANT! YOU.ARE LOVED, CHERISHED and ADORED. We are a community and this road is hard, but together we make a blazing torch. We need each other.

Your light, my light, matter and you are not alone. One light snuffed out is a tragedy and you must shine. You may not feel like a beacon, but even the light of a small little firefly can overpower the darkest of dark. Even if you can’t find your own light, look for the fireflies around you of hope and life…..others will help you see your light. YOU ARE LOVED.
