A Child’s Prayer for Peace, Healing, and the Courage to Break the Cycle of Abuse

As I was reading through old posts of mine, I came across this prayer that my son said when he was 8 years old. The truth of this prayer is still relevant today. You are enough and you can continue to break the cycle of abuse.

“Thank you that we did not get hurt today and that you kept us safe. I pray that you make tomorrow be a good day. I pray that you help us through our fears and things that make us hurt. I pray that You make our hates become our joys. I pray that You make everyone become friends. You are a good God and You do good things. I pray for the day when, if not tomorrow, then a day later in the future, when You conquer Satan and he no longer makes people be mean to each other and ruin things that You meant to be beautiful. I pray for the day when you bring nothing but peace and that everyone, even those who are angry with each other, become friends and live in peace. Please help me have a good day tomorrow. Thank you God for all You do and amen.”

I was bawling and ran to write this down so that I could remember as much as I could. Thank you Lord for this boy who has such a keen understanding and beautiful love of You. He understands the simplicity within the complexity of Your love.

Also, just as a thought for those of you who have children that are living through some hard life stuff with you, we worry so much, we feel as if we have cheated them from a childhood, we feel shame and hurt.

However, there is an understanding and sensitivity that our children can gain even though we hate that our kids don’t have a “regular” childhood. Remember, we are living just one part of our story and they still have the rest of theirs. We are only their caretakers but God is their true protector and He hears and sees them on such a tender and compassionate love level that we, even as loving parents, can only be a mere and often flawed reflection of. We are enough because God is enough.
