Like many who have C-PTSD, she has also been diagnosed with medical issues. She was diagnosed with Chiari Type 1 Malformation and had two brain surgeries before her daughter turned two years old. Since then, she has been diagnosed with multiple comorbidities and has had four neck surgeries and other surgeries. Her strong faith in God and in her family was the motivation she has leaned upon to come through some very dark and difficult times. Through medical and therapeutic interventions, she has learned to heal mentally and physically. Through her faith and family, she has experienced spiritual and emotional recovery.
Biography
Amanda previously taught High School English and Special Education in public, charter and homeschool. She served as the Special Education Coordinator for a Charter School in California. She graduated from Cal State East Bay, previously Cal State Hayward, with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and earned her Teaching Credentials and Master’s in Education from Chapman University. Her Master’s thesis was on teaching writing skills to at-risk students. Unfortunately, post brain surgery, she no longer felt confident in front of a classroom; however she still loves working with teenagers. Her childhood experiences have enlightened her to most enjoy working with students who are considered to be at-risk and need a supportive adult friend. She was a former Young Life Leader in California and now serves on the Young Life Committee in North Carolina. Additionally, she loves spending time with her two teenagers and their friends and maintains an open-door policy. Her home is rarely quiet or clean and she would not want it any other way.
Reviews
“While reading the books, I feel like I am inside the minds of the characters. I especially like the third book with the emphasis on turning to Jesus for healing. I find it interesting how cats can help with so many problems.”
-David O.
“This is a raw story connecting the reader to their own emotions of any abuse whether it be sexual, physical, emotional, verbal, or a host of other abuses. A roller coaster of emotions, yet hope is shared through the love of true friends, a dedicated furry friend and faith in God.”
-RC, Atkinson, NC
“Eye opening on topics I have no experience with. The opening was hauntingly beautiful and disorienting in the best way possible. The author brings a thoughtful perspective to the complexities of C-PTSD, creating an intimate and emotionally resonant connection to the subject. Also, who doesn’t love an adorable and fluffy animal side kick”
